Private Dental Emergencies

Even if you are not a registered patient at our practice, we do accommodate anyone who is suffering from a dental emergency. If you are experiencing toothache, wisdom teeth pain, swelling (abscess), a broken denture, a broken or lost crown, broken or fractured teeth, sports-related injuries, jaw pain, or any other dental emergency, please contact the practice immediately. Below are a few of the most common dental emergencies:

A knocked out tooth, occurs when a tooth has been dislodged from its socket; this problem is usually accompanied by damage to the tooth’s blood vessels, supporting tissues, and nerves. The damage to the blood vessels and nerves cannot be repaired after the tooth has been knocked out, and a root canal treatment will be needed to save the tooth. The root of the tooth can then be re-attached to the bone as it is re-implanted back into place.

Chips on porcelain dental crowns can be repaired using composite resin. However, if the chip or crack is extensive, the entire dental crown may need replacement. This ensures the broken dental crown can continue its role in protecting the affected tooth from dental issues and further damage. If a dental crown accidentally falls off and remains undamaged, your dentist can reattach it provided that the crown has not been damaged.

Toothache usually refers to pain around the teeth or jaws primarily as a result of a dental issue. In most instances, toothaches are caused by tooth problems, such as a dental cavity, a cracked tooth, an exposed tooth root, or gum disease. However, disorders of the jaw joint can also cause pain which is referred to as toothache. A thorough oral examination, which includes dental x-rays, can help determine whether the toothache is coming from a tooth or jaw problem and the cause.

Dental swelling or abscess develops when there is an infection inside the mouth, and is usually caused by a decayed tooth or teeth. The swelling or abscess can also be due to an injury to the tooth. The abscess or swelling may indicate the possibility of an infection and can progress into a very painful dental problem or spread to other parts of the mouth/body, and sometimes cause a fever if not addressed soon enough by your dentist.
